ERmix™ Database Schema Manager
ERwin® SQL/MX and SQL/MP Integration
Data Sheet

Click here to download dependent products.

ERmix™ offers customers the ability to build and managed physical database schemas using one of the most prevalent products on the market: ERwin®. The key advantage of ERmix™ is the integration with SQL/MX and SQL/MP databases catalogs and tables.

Key features and benefits

  • Compatible with commonly adopted management software for database schema design
  • Support for both SQL/MX and SQL/MP tables
  • Support for Enscribe DDL file definition generation
  • Multiple environment support from one schema
  • Data type mapping
  • Per-environment partition, security, and indexing schema support
  • Multiple RVU support
  • Selective publication

ERmix directly uses the ERwin schema structure to construct SQL/MX and SQL/MP catalogs and tables. No post-processing of update files is necessary. ERmix is a cost-effective solution to having to maintain your own translation software and processes in order to use ERwin.

ERmix runs as a GUI application on the Java 2 Runtime Environment platform, so is independent of operating system. ERmix can also be run without the GUI in script mode for execution directly on a NonStop Server.

Key functionality

ERmix uses the schema prepared by ERwin to define SQL/MX and SQL/MP tables. A custom schema, which defines each environment, specifies the partitioning, security, and optional indexing rules. The combination of these two items results in the exact SQL DDL statements needed to construct all or part of an SQL catalog.

ERmix is aware of ERwin subject areas and can construct all or part of a schema, by selecting all tables, by subject area, or individual selections.

Support for SQL/MX and SQL/MP

ERmix is aware of both SQL/MX and SQL/MP rules and syntax. Only those features available to each engine will be generated by the ERmix engine for your target environment. ERwin schemas can be used to generate both SQL/MX and SQL/MP databases simultaneously, providing effective upgrade paths for release management.

Data Type Mapping

ERmix can provide additional data type mapping beyond what ERwin provides. Each data type in ERwin can be mapped to a corresponding type in ERmix, on a per environment basis.

Per-Environment Schemas

ERmix separates the management of environment specific attributes. This allows the same schema to be used for multiple environments.

  • Partitions can be managed in ERmix, providing different partitioning schemes for each environment.
  • Security rules, including Guardian, SafeGuard, and GRANT/REVOKE can be specified in each environment’s schema.
  • Indexes can also be specified or suppressed based on information in the environment schema. Index partition information can be specified as well, per environment.
